Local and Distributed
Any number of SCOOP components may be collected together to make up a system of any degree of complexity. A few software modules packaged as components, for example, can form the basis of a single application. Thousands of components operating on multiple computers across a network, on the other hand, may be integrated together to operate as a single, distributed system.
Components may be located in one or more applications on a single machine, or may be distributed across any number of different machines on one or more networks. Regardless of where the components are located, they are all identified and accessed in the same simple way.
Preconfigured and Auto-Discovery
A system of SCOOP components can be preconfigured explicitly either programmatically, or by means of an XML configuration file. SCOOP can also import an existing CMDB from a variety of commercial and open source vendors to create a system.
A system can also be dynamically assembled as SCOOP components are automatically discovered both locally and remotely. As SCOOP components are booted, they automatically register themselves with the SCOOP Registry. Configurable to run on JMX as well as a variety of other industry standard Mule transports, the SCOOP Registry is a built-in component which provides dynamically updated system configuration information to any interested clients across the network.

Viewers
A number of Viewer applications are available from the SCOOP developer network. Most include the ability to be automatically launched on receipt of an alarm notification. For the desktop, the standard Viewer is a web application that can be automatically launched via your web browser.
For your iPhone, a Viewer is available as a native application you can download free from the Apple iPhone App Store. The iPhone Viewer can be automatically launched when you receive a Text Message as the result of an alarm being triggered. You can also launch it yourself whenever you want to get a current look at how your system is behaving. Similar Viewers are available for BlackBerry and other mobile devices.
